TUCSON, Ariz. - Pepperdine used a five under second round to grab the lead in the Arizona Intercollegiate and never looked back. The Waves shot an 855 (+3) total to wrap up the victory Tuesday at Arizona National Golf Club.
Pepperdine had three golfers in the top 15, including Chad Vivolo, whose 209(-4) was the fourth-best score in the tournament.
Tennessee's Chris Paisley shot a 201 (-12) to post a three-stroke win individually. His five under second round allowed him to take the lead from Pepperdine's Andrew Putnam, who finished in a tie for ninth. Paisley then shot a final-round 67 to secure the victory. The Volunteers finished third, four strokes behind runner-up San Diego State.
San Diego State's Matt Hoffenberg helped lead his team to that second-place finish by finishing second individually in the tournament with a score of 204 (-9). Coastal Carolina's Zack Byrd and Pepperdine's Chad Vilovo each shot a 65 Tuesday, tying for the lowest round of the tournament. They finished third and fourth, respectively. Sean Shahi of UC-Irvine finished fifth.
Host Arizona finished sixth in the event. They were eight strokes off the lead after the second round, but took themselves out of contention with a 10-over final round. Tarquin MacManus led the Wildcats with a 215 (+2) total to tie for 13th. Arizona's junior varsity finished last in the 17-team field, 65 strokes over par.
The Arizona Intercollegiate was played at Arizona National in Tucson, Ariz., a par 71, 6,785 yard course.
