TUCSON--Guys like junior cornerback Wilrey Fontenot, sophomore quarterback Willie Tuitama, sophomore receiver Mike Thomas and junior defensive tackle Lionel Dotson typified the prevalent emotions Wednesday as veteran University of Arizona football players reported for the start of fall camp.

All were eager, conditionally satisfied with their summer progress, and confident that UA football is in good shape. It might have been easy to smile, maybe, with the hard work of camp still a plan for the following day rather than under way, but nonetheless the Cats were a happy group looking forward to the effort.

"We've worked so hard this summer. I'm ready to see it on the field," Fontenot said.

Many returnees met informally outside equipment check-in with reporters, and most had broad smiles.

Workouts open Thursday evening, with a full month of drills tapering toward the Sept. 2 season opener in Arizona Stadium against Brigham Young.
