PALO ALTO, Calif. -

Despite Arizona senior Courtney Karst’s (Centennial, Colo.) season-high 21 kills, the Wildcat volleyball team (10-5, 2-4) fell to No. 6 Stanford (10-3, 4-3) Sunday afternoon at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif. The Cardinal defeated Arizona 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18).

Karst’s 21 kills were the most by any Arizona player so far this season.

Senior Cursty Jackson (Los  Angeles) also registered double-digit kills, tying her season-high mark at 15 and freshman Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 14 for the Wildcats.

Freshman Chloe Mathis (La Jolla, Calif.) recorded 51 assists and sophomore Candace Nicholson (Long Beach, Calif.) added 11 digs.

Stanford’s Rachel Williams led the Cardinal with 19 kills, 12 digs and six blocks.

“We certainly had our chances today,” Arizona head coach David Rubio said. “Games one and two were close, but we just could not get over the hump in games three and four. But I am encouraged, because we’re getting better.”

Arizona will return to McKale Center on Friday, Oct. 7 to host No. 5 Southern California at 7 p.m. and No. 2 UCLA on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
