Women's Tennis Falls in Singles at Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. ?- The Arizona women’s tennis team began play at 2006 Pac-10 Individual Championships Thursday. All four Wildcats fell in the first-round singles matches, with doubles set to begin Friday.

In the first round of the Women’s Singles Main Draw, senior Stephanie Balzert fell to Cal’s Susie Babos in straight sets. Sophomore Juliette Mavroleon lost to California’s Cristina Viscico 6-4, 6-2.


In the Women’s Singles Invitational Draw, junior Kasia Jakowlew lost to California’s Jessica Shu in straight sets. Meanwhile, freshman Tina Razloznik fell to Cal’s Claire Ilcinkas 6-0, 6-2.


The first round of Pac-10 doubles matches start at 9 a.m. tomorrow. In the first round of the Women’s Doubles Main Draw, the pair of Balzert/Mavroleon will face Luana Magnani and Lindsey Nelson of USC. In the Women’s Doubles Invitational Draw, Jakowlew and Razloznik face Aleksandra Cekic and Aleksandra Stefanova of Washington State at 10:15 a.m.
