Five Wildcats Make NBA Playoff Appearances

TUCSON, Ariz. - As seems to be the case in each National Basketball Association season, the University of Arizona men's basketball team is well represented when it comes time for the league's postseason and the 2011-12 campaign is no different.

Arizona boasts five former players on NBA playoff rosters with three representing the Western Conferences and two representing the East. The list includes: Gilbert Arenas (Memphis Grizzlies), Mike Bibby (New York Knicks), Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia 76ers), Jordan Hill (Los Angeles Lakers) and Jason Terry (Dallas Mavericks).

Those five players have combined to make the NBA playoffs 29 times. Bibby leads the 2012 edition with 10, followed by Terry (8), Arenas (5), Iguodala (5) and Hill (1).

Terry and the Mavericks begin defense of their 2011 NBA title against Oklahoma City, while Jordan Hill makes his first professional playoff appearance as the Lakers meet Denver.

The 2012 NBA playoffs begin on Saturday, April 28. Here is a quick look at the first-round matchups.

Eastern Conference
No. 8 seed Philadelphia (Iguodala) vs. No. 1 Seed Chicago
No. 5 seed Boston vs. No. 4 seed Atlanta
No. 6 seed Orlando vs. No. 3 seed Indiana
No. 7 seed New York (Bibby) vs. No. 2 seed Miami

Western Conference
No. 8 seed Utah vs. No. 1 seed San Antonio
No. 5 seed Los Angeles Clippers vs. No. 4 seed Memphis (Arenas)
No. 6 seed Denver vs. No. 3 seed Los Angeles Lakers (Hill)
No. 7 seed Dallas (Terry) vs. No. 2 seed Oklahoma City

Over the last four years, an average of six Arizona alumni per season have made NBA postseason appearances.

During the 2011-12 regular season, UA had 11 different players appear on NBA rosters, a mark that ranked eighth nationally.
