Wildcats Qualify Eight During Final Day at the NCAA Championships

West Lafayette, Ind. ?- The Arizona women’s swimming and diving team completed the final day of preliminary action Saturday, qualifying eight swimmers to compete in five events on the last night of finals competition that begins at 7 p.m. (EST) at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.


            Beginning with the 200-yard backstroke, senior Jessica Hayes finished third overall (1:55.05) and junior Marshi Smith finished seventh (1:55.72), both qualifying for the championships finals of the event.


            Three Wildcats qualified for the championship finals of the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Jenna Gresdal finished second overall finishing with a personal best time of 48.77. Freshman Lacey Nymeyer finished seventh (48.85) and freshman Courtney Cashion finished eighth with a personal best time of 48.98.


            Junior Erin Sieper placed 19th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.18. Senior Emily Mason and sophomore Whitney Myers qualified for the championship finals of the 200-yard butterfly as Mason finished third overall (1:56.09) and Myers was fifth (1:56.60).


            In the final preliminary event of the day, the 400-yard free relay team composed of Smith, Cashion, junior Ryann Hackett and Nymeyer finished second overall with a season best time of 3:17.12.
