Walnut Creek, Calif. ?- Arizona senior Monica Bisordi has been named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 14 -21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Bisordi, a native of San Mateo, Calif., captured her third straight all-around title while setting a new season high of 39.425 against then-No. 16 Oregon State on Feb. 18. She claimed at least a share of the title in three of the four individual events. Bisordi tied for first on the vault and bars with a score of 9.875 on both. In the floor exercise, she matched her season best-score of 9.900 to win the individual title outright. She also placed third on the uneven bars with a score of 9.775.
After winning the award for the second time in her career, Bisordi becomes the first Arizona gymnast to win Pac-10 Gymnast of the week honors this season. She was also the last Wildcat to win such honors last season, after posting a career-best 39.750 in the all-around against California on Feb. 6, 2004.
No. 17 Arizona (10-5, 3-2) will be back in action this Sunday, Feb. 27, to take on No.2 UCLA and No. 8 Georgia at 2 p.m. in Los Angeles.
