Arizona Fall Stats

TUCSON, Ariz. ?C The Arizona softball team defeated Arizona Western, 9-1, in five innings on Friday at Hillenbrand Stadium, as part of the Arizona Fall Tournament.

The Wildcats scored one run in the first and four in both the third and fifth frames to beat the Matadors.

UA freshman Lindsey Sisk retired the side in order in four of the five innings and allowed just one run on one hit, which came in the second inning.

Arizona got a full team effort offensively, as nine different players drove in runs and eight Wildcats registered hits.

Brittany Lastapes led off the top of the first with a single up the middle ?C the first of two hits on the afternoon for the freshman left fielder ?C and scored the gameˇ?s first run on a Callista Balko sacrifice fly.

Two innings later, UA took advantage of an AWC error to plate four runs ?C three of which were unearned. With two on and one out, Kˇ?Lee Arredondo posted one of her two base hits in the game to score pinch runner Jill Malina, in what would be the first of four consecutive run-scoring at-bats for the Wildcats. After Laine Roth drove Danielle Rodriguez home with a fielderˇ?s choice, Sarah Akamine kept the runs coming with a sacrifice bunt to bring Arredondo around. Cyndi Duran capped the four-run second with a two-bagger, scoring Roth.

In the fifth, the Wildcats tacked on an additional four runs on five hits to invoke the run rule. Arredondo got things going with a one-out single. Two batters later, freshman Victoria Kemp doubled her home. After Duran walked,?Malina and Lauren Schutzler had back-to-back RBI hits, setting the stage for Stacie Chambers. Up seven runs with two out in the fifth inning, the sophomore catcher laced a double down the right field line to score Lastrapes, ending the game.
