Men?s Golf Moves into a Tie for Third Place at National Invitational Tournament

TCU maintains team lead at 17-under 559; Frogs’ Killeen one-stroke individual lead

               

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team shot its second consecutive seven-under-par 281 total Monday and moved into a tie for third place at the National Invitational Tournament at Omni Tucson National Golf Club.

 

Arizona’s 36-hole total of 562 (-14) puts the team in a tie for third place with the University of Texas.  TCU continues to lead the 14-team field by one stroke after carding a five-under 283 en route to a 559 (-17) total.  Arkansas (560) is in second place, while the Arizona junior varsity (563) rounds out the top five places.

 

TCU’s J.J. Killeen continues to lead the 75-man field after two rounds.  Killeen carded a three-under 69 Monday and leads the event by one stroke with a nine-under 135 total.  Four players are tied for second place at 136 (-8), including Arizona senior Nick Juszczak, who carded his second consecutive four-under 68.  Juszczak is competing for the UA junior varsity.

 

Senior Nathan Lashley led the Wildcat varsity after firing a four under 68.   The Scottsbluff, Neb., native currently stands in sixth place with a138 (-6) total.  Freshman Travis Esway, who is tied for 24th place at 142 (-2), and sophomore Josh Esler, who is tied for 29th place at 243 (-1), both have under-par totals heading into tomorrow’s final round.  Sophomores Henry Liaw and Nathan Tyler are currently tied for 45th and 58th places, respectively, with totals of 146 and 148.

 

In addition to Juszczak’s efforts, the Arizona junior varsity got standout performances from Trey Denton, who is tied for ninth place at 140 (-4), and Brian Prouty, who is tied for 29th place at 143 (-1).  Tyler Neal tallied a one-under 71 Monday and is tied for 45th place at 146 (+2), while Mark Lamb rounded out the JV contingent with a two-round 151 (+7) total.

 

Three UA players are also competing as individuals in the event:  Kipp Riehle is tied for 15th place at 141 (-3), Ben Marsh is tied for 34th place at 146 (+2), and Brett Carter is tied for 58th place at 148 (+4).

 

The 54-hole National Invitational Tournament concludes Tuesday at Tucson National Golf Club, a par 72, 7,094-yard layout.
