WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Sophomore pitcher Alicia Hollowell was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for March 3-9, her third POW award in as many weeks and the eighth of her career.
Hollowell's dominating performance on March 6 against Indiana, in which she struck out 20 of 21 batters in a perfect game, set an Arizona record for the most strikeouts in a regulation game. Hollowell's record broke Jenny Finch's mark of 19 versus Oklahoma in 2002, and in her freshman campaign last season, struck out 18 against UNLV.
The 15-game winner also appeared for an inning of relief on March 7 versus UTEP, striking out the side in the top of the sixth to give the Wildcats their 25th straight victory of the season, 14-6. Hollowell's total numbers on the week included eight innings pitched, struck out 23 of 24 batters faced with no walks and no earned runs.
Hollowell will be in action again this weekend in a three-game matchup against Missouri on March 12-14 at Hillenbrand Stadium.
