Last Time Out: The Wildcats took a week off after playing five matches over the week of Arizona’s spring break. In their first set of matches, the Wildcats hosted San Diego State and New Mexico State. The Cats split the weekend, losing to San Diego State, 5-2, but beating New Mexico State, 5-2. Arizona then hit the road to play New Mexico, Boise State and Idaho. The Cats fell to New Mexico, 7-0, and Boise State, 7-0, but ended the week on a high note with a 4-3 win over Idaho.

LaNelle Robson Tennis Center: This weekend’s matches will be held on Arizona’s home courts. LaNelle Robson Tennis Center was dedicated in 1991 and is home to 17 lit courts, a center-court grandstand and a permanent canopy over the stands.

Arizona Head Coach Tad Berkowitz enters his seventh season as the head coach of the Wildcats. During the 2008-09 season he was named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Coach of the Year and the Wilson/ITA West Region Coach of the Year. Last season, he led the Wildcats to a 9-14 overall record. He joined the program in 2004 and has held numerous national and collegiate coaching positions. He was promoted to the head coaching position in the spring of 2005 after serving as hall-of-famer Bill Wright's assistant. Berkowitz was a top collegiate player for the Universities of Kentucky and New Mexico, respectively.

Fabulous Five: Arizona returns five players from the 2010-2011 season. Junior Frank Chen will be looked to as a leader this season as he boasts the most colligate tennis experience on the team. Sophomores Giacomo Miccini, Kieren Thompson, Mario Urquidi, and Andre Vidaller also bring their knowledge and experience to the court.

Fresh Four: The Wildcats welcome four freshmen to the 2011-12 roster. Joining the team before the fall season were Carlos Bermudez and Robin Chou. Adding to the four are Sebastian Ionescu and Sumeet Shinde who joined the team in the spring. All four could play vital roles in both singles and doubles action this season.

Friday's Match Data: The Wildcats (5-10, 0-0 Pac-12) will open Pac-12 play with tough competition as they host the No. 8-ranked Stanford Cardinal (10-4, 0-0 Pac-12).

Scouting the Cardinal: On March 10, Stanford defeated Yale, 5-2. Stanford swept doubles competition and went on to win four singles matches. On Wednesday, March 28, Stanford will play Pepperdine in Malibu.

The Last Meeting: On April 3, 2011, Stanford topped Arizona, 5-2 in Tucson. The Cardinal earned the doubles point with wins on courts one and two and downed Arizona on four of six singles courts. Andre Vidaller earned one of Arizona’s points of the day with a win on court five.

Sunday’s Match Data: The Wildcats (5-10, 0-0 Pac-12) continue Pac-12 play at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center as they host No. 12 California (7-7, 0-0 Pac-12).

Scouting the Golden Bears: California called their March 15 match against Minnesota due to rain. In the week prior to that, the Bears dropped two straight matches on the road. California was downed, 4-0 by Pepperdine on March 10, and fell 6-1 to Duke the following day.

The Last Meeting: On April 1, 2011, the Cats were downed, 4-3, by the Bears in Tucson. The Cats dropped two of three doubles matches and went on to win three singles matches. Earning two of Arizona’s three points were Giacomo Miccini and Andre Vidaller on courts four and five.
