Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz.- Trailing 8-3 through eight innings, the No. 24 Texas A&M baseball team sent 13 hitters to the plate in the ninth inning and came up with eight runs on eight hits to rally and defeat Arizona 11-8 at Frank Sancet Field on Saturday. The loss snapped Arizona's season-high four game winning streak and dropped the Wildcats to 10-5 for the season.

The Wildcats mounted the ill-fated five-run lead from a 3-0 deficit with two runs in the third, two in fourth, one in the fifth and what appeared to be three insurance runs in the seventh.

Texas A&M had other plans, as the Aggies strung together five consecutive hits and scored four runs to cut Arizona's lead to 8-7 in the final inning. With runners on first and second with one out, a balk by UA's Mark Worrell and an intentional walk to Justin Ruggiano ensued, loading the bases for A&M's Jordy Mitchell. The Aggie DH delivered with a single to right field to notch the score at 8-8. Scott Beerer completed the come-from-behind rally and gave A&M the lead with a two-run single in the next at bat. The Aggies added another run in the inning, before taking care of the Arizona offense in the bottom half of the inning.

A&M's Matt Farnum (2-0) was the beneficiary of the Aggie rally, picking up his second win of the season with two innings of work out of the bullpen. Beerer, who singled in the go ahead runs in the ninth, also picked up his fourth save of the season with an inning of work in the ninth.

Arizona's Worrell (0-2) was charged with his second loss of the season. The right-hander gave up four runs on two hits with a pair of walks.

The rubber game of the series will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
