Wildcats Compete in All-American Tournament

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. ?- Two players from the Arizona women’s tennis team competed in The Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships presented by Fila.  Arizona junior Juliette Mavroleon and sophomore Danielle Steinberg were chosen to represent the Wildcats this week.

 

The tournament began Tuesday Oct. 3 with a 64-player qualifying tournament.  Eight individuals and four doubles teams advance to the main draw Oct. 5-8. 

 

Steinberg held the No. 29 ranking going into the tournament and faced Notre Dame’s Brook Buck in the first round.  She advanced, beating Buck 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, but fell in her next match against Cristina Visico from California, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. 

 

The No. 62 seeded Mavroleon lost her first round match-up with Oregon’s Dominika Diescova, 6-2, 6-3.  In the consolation round she was defeated by Ela Kaluder from Arkansas 6-2, 6-2. 

 

Next up for the Wildcats is the Harvard University Invitational, Nov. 3-5 in Boston.
