Five University of Arizona seniors will attend the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. 22-28, in the next step after all-star games for National Football League teams to conduct evaluations for potential spots in the NFL Draft.

The draft will take place April 29-30 in New York. UA prospects attending the combine are punter Danny Baugher, running back Mike Bell, defensive back Darrell Brooks, defensive end Copeland Bryan and running back Gilbert Harris.

More than 300 prospects from 107 universities will participate in the 2006 NFL Scouting Combine, set to take place at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. Baugher, who had surgery in late October, likely will not be able to physically participate although he said he will go through the personal evaluation process teams conduct.

The participants were selected by a committee comprised of members of the National and Blesto scouting services as well as seperate members of player personnel departments from independent teams in the NFL.

Arizona's last players selected in the NFL draft were linebacker Lance Briggs (Chicago, 3rd round), receiver Bobby Wade (Chicago, 5th round) and offensive lineman Makoa Freitas (Indianapolis, 6th round) in 2003. UA's group of players and coaches this year have heard at least several of the group have solid chances for the 2006 draft.

Most have already undergone scrutiny, including particpation by Brooks and Harris in the East-West Shrine Game, Bryan in the All-American Classic and Bell in the Senior Bowl.

Scouts from 12 teams attended games at Arizona Stadium in 2005 -- the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Bucaneers, New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans. Also, UA road contests at USC -- which will have 14 players at the combine, Utah, California, Oregon State and Arizona State, also were scouted by NFL teams. Additionally, the Pac-10's agreement with scouts allows film study and attendance at practices during portions of the season.

Here are capsules of UA's top draft prospects attending the combine:

Danny Baugher, Punter

5-10, 200, Phoenix, Ariz.

University of Arizona

Earned first-team All-America honors as a senior from Pro Football Weekly... Also named to the third-team All-America team by the Associated Press in 2005, and was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection... Missed Arizona’s final four games of the year after a knee injury while tackled returning a blocked punt 39 yards against Oregon, costing him the NCAA punting title... He led the nation with a 47.5 yard average for much of the season until the injury caused him to fall below the factor of competing in 75 percent of a team's games. Still, his figure was the best in Division I... He finished the year with 37 punts for 1,758 yards, with 11 downed inside the opponents' 20 yard-line, seven fair catches and eight touchbacks. His effort helped Arizona post a net punting figure of 36.0 yards, 26th nationally... Under 2005 NCAA rules, all touchbacks subtracted 20 yards from net punting figures and Baugher and subsequent kicker Nick Folk combined to keep UA to only 10 touchbacks on its 61 punts, with 19 stuck inside the 20... Baugher was one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter... Baugher is the second UA punter to earn All-America honors. Josh Miller was the first in 1992, and has punted for the Baltimore Stallions (CFL, 1994-95), Pittsburg Steelers (1996-2003) and New England Patriots since his two-year UA career... Baugher finished his career with a 47.5 yards per punt figure to set an Arizona school season record, topping the previous mark of 44.6 yards by Joe Payton in 1965 by a wide margin. His senior season gave him a career mark of 42.1 yards per punt, and he holds the UA career mark with 225 total punts and 9,476 yards... Has progressed well from late October surgery but will attend NFL combine for personal evaluation purposes only... Marketing major... Date of birth: Jan. 24, 1984, in Newton, N.J.
