Women's Golf Selected to East Regional

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 17 Arizona women's golf will play in the NCAA East Regional Championships, May 10-12, In State College, Pa. at the Penn State Golf Course (Blue Course), it was announced by the NCAA selection committee on Monday.

The Wildcats are one of 72 squads selected to play in the NCAA Regional Championships and one of eight Pac-12 teams to earn a bid. The top eight teams from each regional site will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 22-25, hosted by Vanderbilt University in Franklin, Tenn. Among the three regional sites, 18 individuals will also be competing.

"We are excited to head east and the region will be a good test," head coach Laura Ianello said. "We will get to see a lot of teams we don't normally see. It will be a great week for the ladies."

Joining No. 17 Arizona at Penn State Golf Course will be No. 2 Alabama, No. 5 Arizona State, Augusta State, Campbell, Chattanooga, No. 8 Duke, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 14 Florida, Jacksonville State, Kent State, LIU Brooklyn, Maryland, No. 19 Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, No. 24 South Carolina, No. 25 Michigan State, No. 26 Washington, No. 30 Texas, No. 32 Tulane, No. 38 UCF, No. 42 Wake Forest, No. 43 Northwestern, and No. 45 San Diego State.

At last weekend's Pac-12 Championships, the Wildcats moved up three places in the final round to finish in third with a third-round total of 281 (-7), and a final total of 884 (+20). In the final round, Arizona's was one of two teams to finish the day under par. Conference rival, and Arizona's pairing mate for the final round, No. 5 Arizona State finished the event in fifth place with a final of 887 (+23), securing a State Farm Territorial Cup point for the Wildcats. In the final round the Wildcats were paced by No. 86 senior Margarita Ramos, who carded a 70 in the third round for a final total of 221 (+5) for a tie for ninth place.
