TUCSON - The 31st-ranked Arizona Wildcat women's tennis team fell to 2-1 in Pacific-10 Conference play on Sunday with a 4-3 loss to the 27th-ranked Washington Huskies in Seattle.

"It was a rough day at the courts here," head coach Vicky Maes said. "I really felt we were going to win this match. We had our opportunities in the doubles but couldn't convert. And then we thought we could do it in singles but, unfortunately, we just didn't play well enough to pull out four matches."

Arizona dropped the doubles point, winning one of three matches. On court one, Natasha Marks and Sarah Landsman were edged 9-8 in a close match against Venise Chan and Samantha Smith. Lacey Smyth and Kim Stubbe fell 8-4 to Denise Dy and Aleksandra Krsljanin on court two. The only Arizona doubles win came on court three. Susan Mc Rann and Jane Huh teamed up to defeat Vanja Radunovic and Kelli Feeley, 8-2.

In singles action the Cats were edged on three of six courts. Huh was first to finish on court six. The senior from Los Angeles, Calif., beat Feeley to earn the Cats' first point of the day. On court two, Landsman was next to finish. The Syosset, N.Y., native was edged 6-0, 6-0 by the 23rd-ranked Chan. Marks was third to finish on court two. The junior from Nottingham, England lost the battle against No. 5 Dy, 6-1, 6-0. The Wildcats' second point of the day came on court five and was earned by Mc Rann. The freshman from Dublin, Ireland defeated Radunovic, 6-2, 6-1. Arizona's third and final point of the day came on court three when Smyth defeated Smith, 6-1, 6-3. With the match tied at 3-3 all eyes turned to Stubbe on court four. The freshman from Mol, Belgium fell 6-1, 6-3 to Krsljanin.

Arizona falls to 15-4 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-10 while Washington improves to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in the Pac-10.

The Cats will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Northern California to take on Cal and Stanford. Arizona is set to play California on Fri., April 1 at 1:30 p.m. PT, in Berkley, Calif. On Sat., April 2, the Cats will play Stanford at 12 p.m. PT, in Palo Alto, Calif.
