The Arizona volleyball team struggled to a season-low 29 kills and .124 hitting percentage and lost to host Oregon State 3-0 Friday night at Gill Coliseum.
The Wildcats (13-7, 3-5) played the Beavers tough in the match’s first set, but failed to overtake Oregon State, losing 27-25, 25-21 and 25-19.
The 29 total kills was the team lowest output in 2008 and was six kills below their previous mark.
Sophomore Tiffany Owens was the lone bright spot for the Wildcats. The outside hitter recorded 14 kills to lead the squad and added eight digs.
As a team, Arizona hit at a .124 clip, also a season-low.
The Wildcats did out block the beavers 11-2, but had little answer for Oregon State’s Rachel Rourke and Jill Sawatzky. Rourke ended with a game-high 25 kills and Sawatzky added another 15.
This was Arizona’s sixth loss of the season to a ranked opponent and third straight loss on the road.
The Wildcats don’t get any break in the schedule when they take on No. 7 Oregon Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in Eugene, Ore.
