Volleyball Team Has Red-Blue Scrimmage

The Arizona volleyball team kicked off the 2004 season with an intra-squad scrimmage this afternoon at the McKale Center. The Red team, comprised of freshman setter Amy Dyck, assistant coaches Steve Walker and David Thistle, former player Shannon Torregrosa, and several other current Cats on the defensive side, took all four games.

Torregrosa led all players with 22 kills and nine blocks. Dyck finished with 37 assists, while sophomore setter Stephanie Butkus dished out 38 assists on the Blue team. Sophomore Kristina Baum finished with a double-double, 12 digs and 11 kills. Junior Jennifer Abernathy notched 16 kills in the match, while senior Jolene Killough had five blocks. Junior Bre Ladd had a complete match, finishing with six kills, seven digs and three blocks, while sophomore Tyler Bowman served up four aces for the winning Red team. 

The team officially kicks off the season next Wednesday, Sept. 1, with a 7 p.m. match at San Diego State.
