Men's Tennis Players Compete in Tournament

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?- Arizona men’s tennis players Bruno Alcala, Daniel Andrus, Claudio Christen and Peter Zimmer began their fall season this weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational. Both Alcala and Andrus competed in the track A singles bracket. Alcala lost to Eric Molnar of Colorado 7-6(5); 7-5 in the first round, who went on to be the eventual winner. Alcala fell in the quarterfinals of the consolation round to Sam Chang of William & Mary and finished the tournament 1-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles paired with Christen


Andrus also lost in the first round but went on to defeat Pierre Mouillon of Mississippi State University and Colin O’Brien of William & Mary in the consolation round. In the semifinals, Andrus lost to Chang 6-4; 6-1. He finished the tournament 2-2 in singles play and 0-2 with Zimmer in doubles play.


In the track B singles bracket, Christen was the lone Wildcat to win his first match, defeating Ryan Farlow of Mississippi State 3-6; 6-2; 1-0(6). Christen finished the tournament 2-1. Zimmer ended the tournament 2-2 in the track C singles bracket, 0-2 in doubles and 1-1 in one-on-one doubles.


The team will compete next in the Denver Fall Championships Sept. 23-25.
