Game 6 - Worth Wildcat Invitational - Stanford vs. South Florida

No. 22 South Florida rebounded after twin losses Friday by beating No. 8 Stanford, 8-0, in Saturday action at the Worth Wildcat Invitational. The victory gave both teams 1-2 records in the tournament.

Holly Groves followed a couple of walks by Stanford pitcher Dana Sorensen in the bottom of the first inning with her fourth home run of the season to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead.

Kattrina Dowd led off the USF third with a triple off the right field fence, then scored on Tiffany Stewart's two-out single to make it 4-0.

Stanford's Catalina Morris doubled to lead off the Cardinal fourth, and was sacrificed to third by Lauren Lappin. USF pitcher Leigh Ann Ellis got a ground ball back to the circle and struck out Meghan Sickler to strand the runner.

USF added two runs in the fourth with an RBI single by Dowd and a run-scoring fielder's choice by pinch hitter Leigh Ann Ellis. Groves singled in the fifth and Christie Chapman homered to center to provide the run-rule margin.

Game 7 - Worth Wildcat Invitational - Boston University vs. Stanford

Stanford shortstop Lauren Lappin slugged a grand slam to left field to give the No. 8-ranked Cardinal a mercy-rule victory over Boston University in Arizona's Worth Wildcat Invitational softball tournament Saturday.

Cardinal pitcher Laura Severson (4-1) tossed a one-hitter, striking out eight.

The blast evened Stanford's tourney record at 2-2 and dropped BU to 1-2. The Terriers will play Oklahoma State (1-1) in the game following. Boston University is 5-8 overall.

Stanford's Meghan Sickler hit a line drive just over the left field fence for a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to stake the Cardinal to an early lead.

SU (13-4) added another run in the fourth with an RBI single by Sickler after a Jessica Allister double. And then, in the fifth, Heather Shook started the five-run rally with a lead-off double. She scored on Catalina Morris' single.

Game 8 - Worth Wildcat Invitational - Oklahoma State vs. Boston University

Oklahoma State used a 10-hit attack and some key relief pitching to beat Boston University, 8-3, and move to 1-2 in Worth Wildcat Invitational play Saturday.

A single by Courtney Totte and an RBI double by Stephanie Nicholson in the top of the first staked OSU to a 1-0 lead. The Terriers answered with a run in the bottom half when Abbey Pauley singled and OSU pitcher Kristen Neil walked the next three batters, before being replaced by Jessica Hoppock.

The Cowgirls broke the tie, scoring three runs in the fourth with a hit batter and four singles including a two-run hit by Jennie Killman.

In the sixth inning, Shianne Cruce doubled in a run and Totte had an RBI on an infield grounder to make it 6-1.

BU's Chiya Louie and Liz Alley hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead in half. But after Megan Carey walked to lead off the OSU seventh, Lacy Darity socked a home run to left to make it 8-3.

Hoppock struck out 12 and gave up only three hits in earning the victory to improve to 8-2 for the year. OSU took its 11-5 record into the scheduled 3 p.m. game against Arizona.

Boston University dropped to 5-9 and will play at 10 a.m. Sunday in the third-place game of the tournament against an opponent to be determined.
