Jakowlew Advances at ITA Women's West Regional Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Arizona women's tennis team completed qualifying play today in San Diego, Calif. Freshman Kasia Jakowlew was the only Wildcat to compete in today's play.

After receiving a first round bye, Jakowlew went on to the second round to defeat Cal State Northridge's Moe Moe Myinton in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. The win over Myinton is Jakowlew's first of the early fall season. Jakowlew will advance to tomorrow's main draw action.

Along with Jakowlew, senior Debbie Larocque, juniors Dianne Hollands, Maja Mlakar, and Kelly Perry, and sophomore Iza Ferreira will compete in the main draw tournament.

The Wildcats will also be competing three doubles teams in the main draw tournament. Perry will be competing with Ferreira, while Larocque will team up with Jakowlew. The pair of Hollands and Mlakar will enter the main draw tournmanent as the No. 4 seeded doubles team.

Main draw action will begin tomorrow and will continue on to Monday.
