Arizona Volleyball Notes Second Round

From Friday Night's Win -

Arizona improved its overall NCAA Tournament record to an even .500 with its 3-0 win over Eastern Illinois Friday night. The Wildcats, playing in their 17th NCAA postseason have a 16-16 record all time.

Arizona is now 12-7 under Coach David Rubio in 19 postseason matches.

The Wildcats improved their opening round record to 7-1 with the win over the Panthers.

UA has now won nine straight games in first round action.

Junior Lisa Rutledge tallied her 1,000th career kill in the first game against Eastern Illinois last night. In doing so she becomes the 11th Wildcat player in school history to achieve the milestone. She now has 1,013 for her career.

Senior Jill Talbot took over the top career tournament digs mark from classmate Dana Burkholder. She now has 95 to Burkholder's 90.

On Tap For The Second Round -

Since 1993 Arizona is 4-2 in second round matches, and 3-2 in neutral or host site venues.

Arizona has won six straight games in second round action, sweeping host school Texas in 1999 and the Big Ten's Michigan last season in Tucson.

Jill Talbot is next in line for the Arizona 1,000 kill club. With seven kills against the Panthers on Friday she upped her career total to 971.

Seniors Dana Burkholder and Talbot are expected to tie and break the Arizona school record for career tournament games played Saturday night. Both currently stand at 31. Former Wildcats Heidi Bomberger and Barb Bell hold the soon to be broken record of 32 games.

Should the Wildcats advance past the second round match, it will be the third straight season they make a Sweet 16 appearance.
