TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior forward Jazmin Ponce was named to the 2012 Pac-12 Women’s Soccer All-Conference First Team as well as the Pac-12 Second Team by College Sports Madness.
On the season, the Lawnsdale, Calif. native recorded a total of 85 shot attempts, two assists and eight goals. Earning 19 starts in 20 games and logging a total 1,769 minutes, Ponce led the Pac-12 in number of shots taken for seven weeks in a row.
“It’s an honor to be mentioned on something like this,” Ponce said. “It’s amazing that I was chosen over all the other girls in the Pac-12 and to be among the best makes me so happy. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my team, coaches, my family and especially my dad who has always been there supporting me.”
The last Arizona women’s soccer player to be named to the Pac-12 First or Second Team All-Conference list was Kaity Heath in 2007 (second team). The last Arizona soccer player to receive First Team Honors was Gianna DeSaverio in 2006.
For the 2012 season, the Wildcats posted a 6-11-3 overall record, and went 2-7-2 in Pac-12 Conference play. Compared to a 1-16-2 season in 2011, Arizona made a five game improvement.
