Freshman Lorena Ochoa Holds Three Shot Individual Lead

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Sept. 22, 2000) -- The Arizona Wildcats fell to second place after shooting a seven-over-par 299 on day two of the Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course on Friday. The Cats trail No. 14 Pepperdine by one shot heading into Saturday final round.

Arizona freshman Lorena Ochoa turned in a two-under par 71 to remain in the lead at six-under for the tournament. Junior Laura Myerscough shot a 76 (+3), falling from second place, to tie for sixth with Suzie Fisher of Tulsa at 147 (+1). Also scoring for the Wildcats were junior Cristina Baena, 73-75 (+2), and freshman Nancy Abiecunas, 79-77 (+10).

Senior Cristelle Cuzon finished today's competition in 11th place after shooting just one-over par in the second round for a two-day total of 149 (+3). Cuzon is competing as an individual and her score will not be counted in Arizona's overall team total.

First place Pepperdine completed today's action with a 294 (+2), while sixth-ranked Tulsa shot the loewst team score of the day, with a 291 (-1). Tulsa's score for the second day of the tournament equals Arizona's first-round total.

Tournament action concludes tomorrow as the Wildcats attempt to win their first tournament of the year and freshman Lorena Ochoa looks to earn her first collegiate tournament championship. Tee-off is scheduled for 8 a.m.
