TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 4 Arizona womenˇ?s and No. 4 Arizona menˇ?s teams started off their Pacific-10 conference play the same way they started out their regular season play, with a victory. The Wildcats defeated Southern California this afternoon at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The Arizona women defeated No. 15 USC by a score of 178-120 while the men beat No.13 USC, 175.5-113.5.
The win improves the Arizona womenˇ?s record to 2-0 (1-0) while the Wildcat men improve its record 2-0 (1-0 Pac-10). The loss gives the Men of Troy a 1-1 (0-1) record while the Women of Troy fall to 2-1 (1-1).
The Arizona womenˇ?s team started the meet off with a first place finished in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.01. The team included: Hailey DeGolia, Annie Chandler, Lara Jackson and Courtney Cashion. Hailey DeGolia was also on the 400 yard freestyle relay team that also included Dana Christ, Leone Vorster and Jacquelyn Craft. The 400 yard freestyle relay team came in first place with a time of 3:29.47. DeGolia also finished in first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 54.55.
Darian Townsend had a day to remember finishing in first place in three races. Townsend finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:35.60), 100 yard freestyle (44.17) and was on the 200 yard medley relay team that finished first with a time of 1:28.27. The 200 yard medley relay team also included: Albert Subirats, Ivan Barnes and Jordan Smith.
Across the pool at the diving well, Arizonaˇ?s Matt Bisordi came in first place in both the 1 meter (324.30) and the 3 meter (355.90) dives.
Up Next: Tomorrow (Nov. 10) at noon the Arizona womenˇ?s swimming and diving team will take the No. 14 UCLA Bruins and the UC Irvine Anteaters. The Arizona menˇ?s team will take on the Anteaters. The meet will take place at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
