TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Dee-Dee Wheeler scored 10 of her 18 points in the final 8 minutes of the first half while No. 25 Arizona used a huge run to establish command en route to a 72-52 victory Saturday over Arizona State.
The Wildcats (18-7, 11-5) made only three of their first 17 shots and fell behind 16-7 before regaining their composure and shutting down the Sun Devils (14-11, 6-10) with a 23-2 run.
Jill Noe, Arizona State's leading scorer, was held to two points - 11 below her average. The Sun Devils were led by YoVanna Rosenthal and Jenny Thigpin with 10 points apiece.
After Thigpin made a layup with 12:07 left in the first half, the Wildcats went on the decisive tear during which they scored 13 straight points to go ahead 30-18.
The Sun Devils were held to one basket in a span of more than eight minutes.
The Wildcats didn't slow down in the second half, outscoring Arizona State 20-9 early to build a 57-35 edge with 10:55 remaining.
