This Week The Arizona women's tennis team will take on its first Pac-10 opponent Friday versus Oregon. The match will pit No. 16 Arizona (2-0) against No. 51 Oregon (7-1). Competition begins at 1:30 p.m. at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
So Far This Season The Wildcat women's tennis team is undefeated so far this spring, winning its first two matches of the season. Arizona defeated San Diego and Marquette by a score of 6-1 apiece.
San Diego (Jan. 23) - In the No. 1 spot, graduate student Emilie Scribot defeated San Diego freshman Emma Murphy, 6-4, 7-6. "Emilie is a tough player. She loves to compete," said Arizona head coach Vicky Maes. "I'm going to count on her every time she steps on the court." Playing in the second spot, sophomore Dianne Hollands won her match against Lauren Perl, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Sophomore Maja Mlakar, playing in the third position, defeated USD's Tara Livesay, 6-4, 6-3. In the fourth spot, junior Debbie Larocque won her match versus Catherine Heppell, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Kelly Perry, competing in the fifth position, defeated Lauren Kazarian, 6-3, 6-4. In the sixth spot, freshman and newcomer Zorica Zasova was defeated by San Diego's Jennifer Brown, 6-3, 6-4. In doubles play, Scribot and Mlakar teamed up for Arizona, defeating USD's duo of Kazarian and Brown, 8-2. Larocque and Zasova were defeated by Murphy and Livesay, 8-4. Arizona's duo of Hollands and Perry also won their match against Perl and Heppell, 8-3, giving Arizona the doubles point.
Marquette (Jan. 24) - In the No. 1 singles spot, graduate student Emilie Scribot defeated Michelle Mojzis, 6-1, 6-3. Playing in the second singles spot, sophomore Dianne Hollands won her match against Eva Trujillo-Herrera, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Maja Mlakar, in the No. 3 position, defeated Annabelle Espinosa, 7-6, 7-5. Junior Debbie Larocque, in the fourth spot, lost her match to Veronica Garcia Briseno, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Kristy Randono, making her first appearance for the Wildcats in the regular season, won her match, defeating Anna Pavlovic, 6-1, 6-3. In the sixth spot, freshman Zorica Zasova won her match versus Kristin Minkowski, 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 1 doubles spot, Mlakar and Larocque teamed up for Arizona, defeating Marquette's duo of Mojzis and Stankovia, 8-2. In the second position, Hollands and Scribot defeated Espinosa and Briseno, 8-1. Sophomore Kelly Perry teamed up with Zasova to help Arizona sweep the doubles matches, defeating Trujillo-Herrera and Pavlovic, 8-1.
Scouting Oregon The Oregon women's tennis team is on a seven-game winning streak. The Ducks are 7-1, losing only their season opener against Colorado. Likely to play in the No. 1 spot for Oregon is sophomore Daria Panova, ranked No. 28.
