????????????ATHENS, Ga. ?C?The top-ranked Arizona baseball team rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take a 9-4 lead in the seventh and eighth and then withstood a furious ninth-inning Georgia rally to take home a series victory 9-8 on Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 2-1 with the victory, while the Bulldogs slipped to 1-2 with the loss.

?

????????????Trailing by four after six complete the Wildcats plated five in the seventh and four in the eighth to take a commanding five-run lead. Pinch hitter Mike Weldon snapped UAˇ?s scoreless afternoon with a two-out, two-run single to cut UGAˇ?s edge in half at 4-2, and C.J. Ziegler handed the Cats the lead with a bases loaded double down the left field line to put UA up 5-4.

?

????????????The Wildcats then took advantage of the UGA error for another run in the eight and capped the comeback off on a three-run homer by Diallo Fon to go up 9-4.?The inning came to an end on play that saw Jon Gaston steal second, advance to third and come towards home only to be called out and ejected after a collision with UGAˇ?s catcher Bryce Massanari.

?

????????????The ejection fired up the UGA dugout and the Bulldogs rallied for three runs on solo home run by Ryan Peisel off of Mike Colla and a two-run blast by Rich Poythress off of Daniel Schlereth to make it a two-run game at 9-7. Closer Jason Stoffel entered with one out and surrendered a RBI single to pinch hitter Joey Lewis before getting the final two outs for his second save of the year.

?

????????????Colla, who allowed just two runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings in relief of starter Ryan Perry, picked up his first win of the year. The right-hander struck out three and walked two in his second game.

?

????????????UGAˇ?s starter Nathan Moreau pitched well despite not earning a decision. The left-hander balnked the Wildcats for six strong innings on just three hits, only one of which made it out of the infield.

?

????????????Georgia opened the scoring in the third on a two run single off the bat of Ryan Peisel. Centerfielder Matt Cerione reached on a fielding error by first baseman C.J Ziegler to open the frame. UGAˇ?s Lyle Allen then followed with a single up the middle and the pair were advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by leadoff hitter Michael Demperio for Peisel.

?

The Bulldog third baseman lined a shot back up the middle to easily plate Cerione from third and Allen added another on a hard collision with UA catcher Dwight Childs at the plate to make it 2-0 UGA.

?

The Bulldogs then took advantage of a second UA error in the sixth to add another set of runs for a 4-0 lead. Right-fielder Matt Olson drove in Gordon Beckham on a run-scoring ground out to make it 3-0 before UA second baseman Colt Sedbrook dropped a pop fly in shallow right field for the second Wildcats defensive miscue of the game. The error extended the inning and allowed Rich Poythress to score on a wild pitch two batters later.

?

????????????The Wildcats will open the home portion of their 2008 schedule next weekend when they host Sacramento State for a three-game series at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium. First pitch for the series opener on Friday is slated for 7 p.m.
