WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - University of Arizona senior Wendy Allen earned first-team Pac-10 Conference All-Academic honors today. Allen, a two-year starter after transferring to UA from Ohio State in 2003, was one of 10 players from seven schools to earn the distinction.
Allen, the Wildcats' first baseman, designated player or pitcher in 2004, carries a 3.32 cumulative grade point average in business management.
She is on the ballot for Academic All-America District VIII honors and has a good chance of making the national ballot in ensuing weeks.
She hit .396 with eight home runs and 73 runs batted in, plus hit the UA single-season chart with 16 doubles this past year. She was named first-team All-Pac-10 last week.
She was among national leaders in RBI per game and earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors earlier in the season. She batted in the three spot in the order as a senior.
Allen is Arizona's first Pac-10 academic selection in softball since outfielder Lauren Bauer made it in 2001.
