Arizona Fall Ball - Day 10: The visiting gray team defeated the home white team in the seventh intrasquad game of the fall. Freshman Jason Snyder picked up the win on the mound as seven gray team players picked up at least one hit on the afternoon.

The white team opened the scoring in the first with a lone run off of Snyder. A leadoff single by Brad Hassey proved to be troublesome after he stole second, was advanced to third on a groud out by Marc Kaiser and scored on a 6-3 ground out by sophomore Moises Duran. The first-year Wildcat surrendered a walk to Ken Riley and two wild pitches and a walk to Justyn St. Clair later faced first and third. The newcomer settled down and induced classmate Jeff Van Houten into a fly ball out to end the inning and kill the threat.

The gray team answered with a run of its own in the top of the second. A leadoff double by catcher Chris Cunningham led to the tying run as freshman John Hardy brought home the senior in the next at bat with a single to centerfield. The run was just the second sophomore Tony Sulser had surrendered in five appearances this fall. Sulser worked just two innings, but struck out a pair of hitters, both looking.

The Gray team opened the game up in the fourth inning with four runs off of White reliever Scott Burns. The gray team posted six hits in the inning as four different players recorded RBIs.

The White team countered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth thanks to the timely hitting of two fall walk-ons. After singling to lead off the inning, freshman Jeff Van Houten adavanced to third on walk-on Kevin Anderson's double and came home on recent newcomer Mike Wilcox's sac-fly. Anderson would eventually score on a wild pitch by Snyder.

The scored remained 5-3 in the favor of the Grays until the bottom of the sixth when Kevin Anderson improved to 2-for-3 on the day by launching a solo home run to center off of Kevin Sears to cut the lead to 5-4.

However the Gray team added a run in the top of the sixth to pad its lead by two runs on a RBI single by Pat Reilly that scored Chris Marini.

Quoting Coach: "I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing halfway through the fall schedule. We're seeing the players in the habit of playing hard. The hustle and energy on every play is there, now we can start to work on execution. We need to work on both offense and defense and even pitching. I've seen that were going to have to work on scoring runs. That's not really a negative, but we're going to have work and manufacture runs on offense. Overall though I'm pleased with how the first half has gone. We're implementing and developing the tempo of how we're going to play the game."
