TUCSON--The UA football team ran through its offensive arsenal for two hours Saturday morning, with the spread?doing its thing in featuring throwing by all four quarterbacks.
Junior starter Willie Tuitama completed 21 of 34 attempts for 218 yards and three touchdowns, with scores of 51 yards to Mike Thomas, 12 yards to Xavier Smith and 20 yards to Terrell Reese.?Senior backup Kris Heavner was efficient with 11 completions on 16 throws for 118 yards. Redshirt freshman Tyler Lyon hit six of nine tosses for 39 yards including a nine-yard TD catch by freshman tight end Rob Gronkowski, while true freshman Bryson Beirne had a final series with a copule of attempts, the final picked off by junior safety Brandon Tatum.
Senior running back Chris Jennings scored the lone rushing TD on a three-yard run early in the action, which saw the UA defense thrwart 12 third-down conversions and recover a fumble caused by freshman linebacker Apaiata Tuihalamaka. Still, the offense compiled 23 first downs during the workout.
Junior placekicker Jason Bondzio hit a 21-yard field goal and was 3-of-3 in warm-ups, while redshirt freshman punter Keenyn Crier boomed three punts for a 51-yard average. Head coach Mike Stoops and staff played a number of guys on both sides, with some veterans like senior cornerback Antoine Cason seeing early action only.More Photos
