<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">FULLERTON</B></st1:City><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">, <st1:State w:st="on">Calif.</st1:State> ? </B><st1:State w:st="on">Arizona</st1:State> won a battle of the last two national championship winners, with a 2-1 victory over seventh-ranked <st1:State w:st="on">Michigan</st1:State> in the quarterfinal round of <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Fullerton</st1:place></st1:City>&rsquo;s Judi Garman Classic.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">The Wildcats out-hit the Wolverines four to three in a closely contested battle that was decided on a two-run single in the fourth inning.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Wildcat pitcher Taryne Mowatt pitched a gem, as she improved her record to 14-6 in her 17<SUP>th</SUP> complete game of the year.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Corona</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Calif.</st1:State></st1:place>, native punched out eight UM hitters and allowed three hits and one walk in seven innings of work.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Michigan</st1:place></st1:State> pitcher Nikki Nemitz suffered her first career loss, as she saw her record drop to 9-1.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Ironically, two years ago at the same tournament, Mowatt&rsquo;s first career loss came to a <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Michigan</st1:place></st1:State> team that would eventually win the 2005 Women&rsquo;s College World Series.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">With both teams hitless entering the bottom of the third, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Michigan</st1:State></st1:place> loaded the bases with just one out.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>After Mowatt struck out the first hitter of the inning, the top of the Wolverine order came to the plate.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Alessandra Giampaolo singled through the middle and Rebekah Milian reached on an infield base hit, giving the Wolverines a pair of base runners.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>After Samantha Findlay was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Roya St. Clair worked the count 3-0 before Mowatt battled back to induce a fly pop out.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>During the next at-bat, Mowatt hurled a wild pitch, allowing Giampaolo to score the game&rsquo;s first run.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">The Wildcats responded with a pair of two-out runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Caitlin Lowe led off with an infield single, and Chelsie Mesa reached safely when Nemitz failed to retire Lowe on a fielder&rsquo;s choice.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Two outs later, UA&rsquo;s two base runners had moved up to second and third, respectively, with Jenae Leles at the plate.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The Wildcat third baseman came through with what proved to be her sixth game-winning hit of the year, a two-run single to right.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Mowatt would allow only one hit outside of the third inning and retired the final 10 opposing hitters of the game.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><o:p> </o:p></B></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Game Notes: <o:p></o:p></B></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;
