?TUCSON, Ariz. ?C A pair of Arizona soccer players, sophomore Samantha Drees and incoming freshman Jackie Zinke, will head to campus in the next few weeks riding high after helping to guide their youth teams to championship runs in Texas.
?Drees, who appeared in five games at UA as a true freshman last season, helped lead the Under-19 PWSI Cardinals of Woodbridge, Va., to the championship game of the 2007 U.S. Youth Soccer Championships in Dallas, Texas, last week. The Cardinals played their way through to the final match of the tournament before falling to the Carmel (Ind.) Cyclones, 2-0.
Drees had propelled her club to the national championships by scoring the game-winning goal in penalty kicks earlier in July in the Region I championship in Portland, Maine.
Zinke, a member of the Slammers Futbol Club from Newport Beach, Calif., also came up just shy of a national championship bid as her team dropped the final game of the Under-18 age group in penalty kicks after battling to a 1-1 tie against the Bloomfield (Mich.) Force.
The Arizona soccer program will kickoff its 2007 campaign when it opens fall camp on August 13 in Tucson. The Wildcats open the regular season by hosting Utah on August 31.
