WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona Softball sophomore pitcher Shelby Babcock has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the week, the conference announced Monday.
The sophomore's three-hit domination of California on Saturday earned the pitcher her first weekly conference accolade.
Babcock posted a 1.78 ERA while going 2-0 in four appearances as the Wildcats finished the week 4-2, sweeping Utah and taking one game from top-ranked California. Babcock pitched 19.2 innings, struck out 13 and allowed only five runs on 11 hits while limiting opponents to a .162 clip against her. In the win over Cal, she allowed only three hits with six strikeouts in a complete game effort.
The Broomfield, Colo., native is 15-7 this season with a 2.34 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 134.2 innings pitched.
Babcock joins UCLA's Stephany LaRosa, who was named the conference's Player of the Week this week.
The award marks the first career weekly citation for Babcock, and second of the season for Arizona. Brigette Del Ponte was the Pac-12 Player of the Week 2/20-2/26. It is the Wildcats' 136th weekly conference award all time.
