TUCSON, Ariz. - Head diving coach Omar Ojeda and the Arizona diving team will depart for UCLA to compete in the three day Bruin Diving Invitational held at the Spieker Aquatics Center. It begins Friday, Jan. 11 and goes through Sunday, Jan. 13
For many Arizona divers, the invitational provides an opportunity to lengthen a string of dominating performances. In Senior Ashley Herrera's last outing, she took first place in both the 1m and 3m dives with scores of 280.75 and 289.90, respectively.
The men have not competed in almost two months, but the last meet in Tucson was prosperous. In a field of heavy competition, freshman Rafael Quintero stole the show in the platform dive, getting first place with a score of 388.20. He also posted a 382.45 in the 3m championship to take third. Senior Carter Craft also found the podium in the invite, getting a third place finish in the 1m championship (319.05).
The upcoming meet in Los Angeles will feature divers from many schools, including Cal, USC, Arizona State, Miami, Kansas, Stanford, Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, San Jose State, San Diego State, and Fresno State.
The men's 1m and women's 3m will take place Friday, the men's 3m and women's 1m will take place on Saturday, and both the men and women's platform championships will occur on Sunday.
