Arizona Head Coach Lute Olson Quotes:

“The inside game is certainly developing to the point where we have an inside game with Kirk (Walters) and Ivan (Radenovic) together. We need to keep getting the ball in there to those two and we need to do a better job of hitting them when they are open. Ivan and Kirk work really well together.”

“Our inside game was key and we had much better balance on the boards tonight with everyone but the point guard with at least six rebounds. That shows how much we have come along in that aspect because when we were up in Oregon between Kirk, Ivan and Isaiah (Fox), I think we had maybe 10 points. Tonight we had 33 points with 14 rebounds from that group.”

Oregon shot really well. I didn’t think that (Chamberlain) Oguchi missed any; it seemed like every shot he took went in. I was really surprised to know he was 6-15 from the three-point range.”

“I think stopping (Arron) Brooks was key in tonight’s game because he has been a real pain in our side in the past and we did a good job of containing him and (Malik) Hairston as well.”

“I didn’t think it was our defense that was the problem as much as (our lack of) taking advantage of moving the ball and letting the shots come to us. We got them down to 16-3 and immediately forced two shots in a row. It’s like we can’t stand prosperity sometimes.”

“It’s great to be home. The fans obviously made the difference in the game. They refused to let us lose and they really were positive and up on their feet while cheering the guys on even when things looked pretty bleak.”

“We need to get some momentum going and we need to keep that momentum up. We have two tough games on the road next week but we need to keep things going. I think we solved one of our problems, and that’s our inside presence. I thought Kirk did a really good job of moving and challenging shooters in the lane. Ivan continues to play better and better and he’s becoming more vocal and I think that’s helpful. The more vocal we all are, the better we’ll be.”

“The other thing about Ivan is that he understands the game. He has a great basketball mind and he’s stepping up in a lot of different areas right now.”

“(Daniel) Dillon came off the bench after sitting out for about an hour and a half and he  really stepped up in terms of his defense. That’s an indication he needs to be out there more than he is. He’s definitely our best all around defensive player.”

Junior F Ivan Radenovic

“We held our intensity the whole game, from the time we were up 16-3 and through all of the ups and downs.  We were down five with less than a minute to go, and then we pulled it out.  That says a lot about this team.”

“I’m more of an inside and outside player, but Kirk is doing a great job inside for us, and tonight was no different.”

“We just got done with this game.  We’ll have to see about Oregon State tomorrow [in practice] and on Saturday in the game.”

Junior C Kirk Walters

“This definitely gets the monkey off our back. We need to use this build momentum and keep getting better. We need to keep getting better and get ready for the Pac-10 tournament.”

“This is one game out of the way. We have to keep winning. It was great to get this one on our home court.”

On Oregon’s halftime adjustments against the 1-3-1 zone:

“I think they did a great job of running their zone sets. They made some adjustments and hit some big shots.”

On his role in the middle of the 1-3-1 zone:

“My job is to take up space and clog the middle. When a driver comes to me I have to cut him off. I need to be able to challenge shots and block them and be an aggressive rebounder.”

“I wasn’t thinking about the numbers I was putting up. It was all about my teammates. I need to thank them. They did a great job of passing to me when I was open. They got me a lot of post-up’s and jump shots.”

Junior G Mustafa Shakur

“Throughout the game, I didn’t hit all the shots I wanted to, but I made the free throws down the stretch and that’s what matters.”

“During the timeout, Coach [Olson] told us to get a good shot.  He told us to get some stops down at the defensive end, and we knew that we’d come through when our team had the ball.”

On drawing the foul with under 10 seconds and getting to the foul line:

I just wanted to get to the rim and draw the foul or get the bucket. I wasn’t nervous [at the line]. I just wanted to concentrate and hit the shots.”

On the early success of the 1-3-1 and Oregon’s adjustments:

“After a while, they started trying different things. They found what worked. I think early on they weren’t expecting it even though we played it in the second half against UCLA. We did well with it in the second half at UCLA. It definitely gives us another option to use on the defensive end.”
