TUCSON, Ariz. - The 2008 Fall season came to a close for the Arizona women’s golf team on Tuesday afternoon as the #13-seeded Wildcats posted a 4-1 win over 11th-seeded Texas A&M to finish in 11th place at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championships, Tuesday afternoon at the Ginn Reunion Resort in Reunion, Fla.

Sophomore Alejandra Llaneza and freshman Margarita Ramos completed a perfect 3-for-3 stretch during the match play portion of the event as each posted 2-up victories on the day. Starting on the 12th hole, Llaneza took a 2-up lead on the 17th, but proceeded to lose three-straight holes to fall behind by one. She stemmed the tide and responded with a stretch of three-consecutive wins over her own over holes 4-6 before halving the final five holes of play.

Ramos also made her way through a see-saw match, falling behind early before taking a 1-up lead thanks to a win on the 1st hole. She dropped two-straight holes on 5 and 6, but rallied with wins on each of the final three holes to capture the match.

Freshman Isabelle Boineau battled back from a winless day on Monday to post the most lopsided win of the afternoon. Despite falling behind on the first hole, she won back-to-back holes on 13 and 14 and never trailed again. She was briefly even after losing the 17th hole, but she quickly answered with wins on 18 and 1 and pulled away on the front nine.

Brittany Benvenuto rounded out the scoring with a 2 and 1 win that saw her use a hot stretch of holes to take the lead. She dropped each of the first two holes, but drew one back by claiming the 15th hole. She was briefly even after winning the 1st hole before surrendering the 2nd hole. However, she copied the performance of Llaneza to win the 4th-6th holes for the victory.

Arizona tees off its Spring season with the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, February 22-24 at the Peninsula Golf Club in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico.
