TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona Wildcat women's soccer team lost its Pac-12 Conference opener 7-0 at No. 1 Stanford Friday night in Palo Alto.
Arizona (0-8-1, 0-1-0) was able to hold off Stanford (9-0-1, 1-0-0) for most of the first half, only giving up two goals in the first 45. The Wildcats recorded all nine of its shot attempts for the night in the second half, led by a pair each from juniors Renae Cuellar and Kirstyn Magyar, and sophomore Ana-Maria Montoya.
On the night, the Cardinal outshot Arizona 39-9.
In goal, senior Ashley Jett had four saves on the night before being retired for sophomore goalie Lorena Aragon, who recorded three more saves in her first action since the first two matches of the 2010 season.
Up next, the Wildcats continue on the road with a pair of matches against the newest members of the Pac-12 Conference, Colorado and Utah. Arizona will first face Colorado on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. MST before facing Utah on Sunday, October 2, at 1 p.m. MST.
