Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller
"Generally, I thought that tonight was a better performance than the first exhibition game. We had a very good intensity; we rebounded the ball well, and passed the ball well. Our defense tonight looked like the defense we hope to see this season."
"For the most part, tonight showed how we built on everything we learned from the first exhibition and we are moving in a positive direction. We are making better decisions across the board, though we still need to work on our transition and to not give up the quick baskets. We definitely executed better on offense tonight, and I know that we are going to improve on it throughout the season."
On No. 42 Jamelle Horne
"I have to give Jamelle a lot of credit. He played 21 minutes in the first exhibition and gave us 19 points and 10 rebounds, and tonight he gave us 15 points and 9 rebounds. I think that he is definitely our best overall rebounder. He's got a lot of talent, and he is working on getting better across the board. For all of them we are working on getting the best shot, not just a dunk of a three-pointer.
On No. 21 Kyle Fogg
"Kyle plays hard, and I can't judge him for what we saw tonight. He had to battle the flu, so he missed a lot. He missed some new plays, the next phase of what we are doing. He will definitely make strides and come back from what he missed."
Biggest concern going into Sunday
"My biggest concern, which is something that I can't place blame on, is that so many of our guys are new and have very little experience. I know that coming into our first game of the regular season, some of them won't know what to expect. The older players, like Nic and Jamelle, will definitely have to educate the younger players. When Nic prepares for a game, he focuses like it's the biggest obstacle, the most important match, and the younger guys don't quite know how to get ready like that."
"I know going into Sunday's match, we will be at a higher level, all across the board. We're going to make good progress this week, and we'll be ready to face Northern Arizona."
Arizona Player Quotes
Senior Guard Nic Wise
On his injuries:
"I'm pretty much 100%. My ankle's still not at full strength and my knee hurts sometimes, but they're stuff you just have to push through if you want to win and be successful."
On the team being game ready:
"We're getting there, we still have guys who haven't played a real college game yet, and we're all still trying to learn the system, myself included. There's gonna be a lot of energy on Sunday on our home court when the record actually counts. We'll be ready though."
Sophomore Guard Kyle Fogg
On his setback due to illness:
"I missed almost a week of practice. I missed Tuesday, and then practiced a little on Saturday and Sunday."
On the differences between last year and this year:
"The biggest thing is confidence. I have confidence in myself, and my teammates have confidence in me. It means a lot, especially coming from Nic (Wise) and Jamelle (Horne), who really trust me. There's more pressure on me, but I welcome that."
Freshman Center Kyryl Natyazhko
"Everyone is trying to do the same thing: learn the system. Coach really helps out every day in practice and we watch a lot of film. We help each other; we're learning it together. I played pretty much the same system in high school, which is a big reason I came here."
