TUCSON - For the second time this season, senior forward Ify Ibekwe has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Ibekwe paced Arizona to two more road wins this weekend: at Oregon State, 50-46, and at Oregon, 88-65. Over two games, Ibekwe averaged 23.0 points, 15.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals in 39.0 minutes of action. Against the Oregon schools, she shot 63.0 percent from the field (17-27), 71.4 percent from three-point range (5-7) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-8). She also chipped in with 3.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.0 blocks per game.
Against Oregon State, Ibekwe shot 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe for 15 points. Playing all 40 minutes of the game, her stat line also included 16 rebounds, including 11 defensively, three assists, four blocks and five steals. With less than one second to play on the clock and the Wildcats leading the Beavers by just two points, Ibekwe went to the free throw line and sealed up the win with two makes. She picked up her 11th double-double of the season.
Against Oregon, she nearly matched her career best in points scored (32) with 31 on 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from the field, 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from behind the three-point arc and 4-of-4 (100.0 percent) from the charity stripe. Her five three pointers made are a career best. She also chipped in with 15 rebounds, all defensive, three assists, two blocks and three steals.
On the season, Ibekwe averages 16.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and is the only Pac-10 player to average a double-double. She also pitches in with 2.4 steals, 1.6 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. She has 12 double-doubles this season and 53 in her career. This season, she has 23 games in double-digit scoring and 13 games in double-digit rebounding.
This season, Ibekwe has led Arizona to an overall record of 19-10 and a Pac-10 record of 10-18, the highest win totals for the Wildcats since the 2004-05 season when the squad earned an overall record of 20-12 and a Pac-10 record of 11-7.
The No. 4 Wildcats will play the No. 9 Oregon Ducks on Wed., March 9, in the first round of the Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament, it was announced by the league office on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. PT/3:15 p.m. MT at Los Angeles' Galen Center.
