WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--The UA football team will open Pac-12 play next September against Stanford in the inaugural season of conference play with newcomers Colorado and Utah on board. The league released its Pac-12 football schedule for next year today.

The slate includes nine conference games, including Pac-12 South contests against ASU, Colorado, UCLA, USC and Utah, and has Arizona missing California and Washington State of the Pac-12 North division. UA has league home games against Stanford, Oregon, UCLA and Utah (plus NAU and Louisiana-Lafayette) with league road contests at USC, OSU, Washington, Colorado and ASU (plus Oklahoma State).

UA will face the same league teams in 2012, although that season's schedule has not been released. An eight-year formula was adopted which includes two-year matchups through 2018, with all schools playing their natural rivals each year, plus the California schools all facing off every year.

Arizona will miss North Division teams Stanford/OSU in 2013 and 2014, will miss Oregon/Cal in 2015 and 2016, and will miss Stanford/Oregon in 2017 and 2018, for example.

The 2011 Pac-12 Championship game will be played Dec. 3 at the home site of the division winner with the best overall conference record, with various tie-breaker systems established, although details were not part of the conference schedule release.

One of the 2011 UA contests, UCLA at Arizona in October, has been earmarked for a possible television selection and will be played Thursday, Oct. 20.
