TUCSON , Ariz. ?-The Arizona menˇ?s and womenˇ?s diving team opened up the Houston Invitational today. The other two teams competing in the event are:? the University of Kansas and the University of Houston.? This afternoon included the preliminaries for the 1-meter dive.? The finals are slated to begin at 6 p.m. tonight.
There were only three men to compete in the 1-meter dive this afternoon. All three were from the University of Arizona. Finishing in first place in the 1-meter was Matt Bisordi (312.95). Not far off the pace was Ben Grado with a score of 311.95. Finishing in third was Craig Sheedy with a score of 228.30.
There were also three Arizona women divers in the 1-meter dive this afternoon.??The divers were Carly Smith (220.50), Danielle Ridgway (220.15) and Allison Scaife (117.10). The divers finished in seventh, eighth and ninth place respectively.? The winner of the prelims for the women was Ginni van Katwijk out of the University of Houston. She had a total of 269.90 points.
Up Next: ?The Finals for the 1-meter dive will conclude tonight. The wildcats will still be in Houston for the Invitational through Nov. 17. Tomorrow (Nov. 16) the divers will compete on the 3-meter and then compete on the Platform on Saturday.
