After a great start to the NCAA’s on Thursday, Arizona got off to a disappointing beginning in Tuesday morning’s relay. In heat three of the 200 medley relay, Hailey DeGolia missed timed her backstroke start in lane four and was disqualified. That meant the Cats will not receive a chance to compete in the finals of the 200 MR. Over the dual meet season, Arizona had the top seed time of any school with 1:36.02.

In the 400 individual medley, Julie Stupp qualified for the championship heat with a time of 4:05.56. Qualifying for the consolation finals were Jenny Forster and Kathryn Thompson with times of 4:08.82 and 4:09.84 respectively.

DeGolia did not let her false start in the 200 medley relay affect her in her individual event of the 100 fly as she and teammate Ana Agy both qualified for the finals with times 51.73 and 51.67 respectively. DeGolia’s fly time was her best of the year. 50 free sensation Lara Jackson qualified for the 100 fly consol finals with a time of 52.58.

Senior Taylor Baughman swam with a passion in heat two of nine of the 200 free, turning in a time of 1:44.90, good enough to place 11th overall and get into the consol finals. Justine Schluntz qualified for the championship heat in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.51. Leone Vorster will accompany Baughman in the consol finals after swimming a 1:44.73.

Annie Chandler qualified for the 100 breast finals with a new UA school record time of 59.18, breaking Amanda Beard’s time of 59.73 set in 2000. The mark is six tenths faster than Chandler’s previous personal best set in Austin at the Texas Invite.

In the 100 backstroke, the duo of Agy and DeGolia teamed again to qualify for the championship heat with times of 51.78 and 51.69 respectively.

Tonight’s final events will begin at 7 p.m. CST
