BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Freshman Sherlyn Popelka carded her second-straight 69 to share the individual lead, helping Arizona climb into first place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Tuesday afternoon at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Were it not for a double bogey on her final hole of the day, Popelka would hold a two-shot lead over Sara-Maude Juneau of Louisville. Still, Popelka celebrated another solid round that included an eagle on the par-5 16th hole despite blustery conditions.
Arizona sits one shot ahead of Pac-10 rival Washington despite adding 10 shots to its team total. The Wildcats were 6-over par on the day (294) and have a two-day total of 578. UC Davis is four shots behind while Florida (586) and Louisville (587) round out the top five.
Sophomore Margarita Ramos shot 73 for her second round and is now 4-over for the tournament. Fellow second-year player Isabelle Boineau saw a second-straight even par round spoiled by two late bogeys and has tallied 146 strokes over the two days.
Nikki Koller and Alejandra Llaneza each shot six-over par on the day with Koller sitting one stroke ahead after shooting 1-under on Monday. Freshman Kyndall Ardoin carded a 4-over round of 76 and is 7-over par through two rounds of play as an individual competitor.
The final round of play will commence with a shotgun start on Wednesday, October 28 at 8:00 a.m.
