OJAI, Calif. ?- The No. 51 Arizona men’s tennis team completed play at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, Friday, April 22, in Ojai, Calif.  Arizona was unable to win their only singles match in the Invitational Draw, while the Wildcats went 2-3 in doubles competition today.

In the invitational bracket, the Wildcats lone competitor, in singles competition, was freshman Claudio Christen.

Playing in the quarterfinal match, Christen fell in a close match to Ken Nakahara of California, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Looking to turn things around, the Wildcats’ top two doubles teams started the day out early, winning their first two matches, in the Main Draw. With the first match of the day, senior Colin O’Grady played with junior Daniel Andrus due to an injury suffered by junior Roger Matalonga yesterday, in singles competition. Playing for the first time together all year, the pair we’re able to defeat Drew Hoskins and Adam Loucks of USC, 8-4. In the other first round match, the freshman duo of Bruno Alcala and Christen gained some revenge for the Wildcats, from last weekends match, defeating Mike Beatty and Andy Colombo of Arizona State, 9-7.

In the second round of the Main Draw, the Wildcats didn’t fair so well losing both of their matches. With the toughest match of the day, Andrus and O’Grady fell to Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta of UCLA, 9-8. Rounding out doubles competition in the Main Draw, Alcala and Christen fell to Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic of Washington, 8-4.

On the other side of things, only one Wildcat team was able to compete in doubles competition, due to the injury of Matalonga yesterday. Junior Tim Mullane and freshman Francois Vandermerwe fell to Jeff Kazarian and Kaes Van’t Hof of USC, 8-3.

The Wildcats have completed the regular season and will await the draws for the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Championships. The draws will be announced May 2, on ESPN News.
