TUCSON, ARIZ. ?- Amanda Wilson (Hilo, Hawaii/Waiakea High School) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Arizona in the fall of 2005, head coach Greg Allen announced today.

"Having already played in eight USGA events shows that Amanda is a fierce competitor since you have to earn your way into those tournaments.  I think Amanda will come in here and compete for a starting spot right away,” Allen said.

The 2002 Hawaii state junior champion, Wilson competed in the 2004 U.S. Women’s open. In 2002, she played in the U.S Women’s Amateur Public Links, advancing to the quarterfinals before losing to Michelle Wie in 19 holes. Wilson participated in the U.S. Girls Junior championship in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She was also the runner-up at the 2003 Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.

Wilson joins Sommer Scholl (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King High School) and Lauren Espinosa (Hickory Creek, Texas/Lake Dallas High School) in the Wildcat class of 2009. Scholl and Espinosa signed with Arizona in November.

The Wildcats wrapped up their 2004-05 season at the NCAA West Regional in Las Cruces, N.M., where they placed 13th in the 21-team field.
