TUCSON, Ariz.--Junior basketball guard Daniel Dillon has been suspended from competition pending further review, head coach Lute Olson said Wednesday. He will accompany the team to New Orleans today (Wednesday) for NCAA championship play, but will not be in uniform.

The suspension is due to a violation of a team rule, Olson said.

“I have no further comment about this matter at this time,” Olson said. Arizona Athletics director Jim Livengood said other matters relating to the situation will not be released.

UA plays Purdue Friday in New Orleans and if it wins that game would play either top-seed Florida or 16-seed Jackson State on Sunday.

Statement from Daniel Dillon:

“I apologize to the community for my recent actions. I accept Coach Olson’s decision and look forward to supporting the team every way I can.”
