WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona sophomore Taryne Mowatt was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, for her performance in the Judi Garman Classic during the week of March 13-19, the Conference announced Tuesday.

Mowatt started two games in Fullerton, Calif., winning both in dominant fashion with no-hit and perfect game performances.

The Corona, Calif., native allowed base runner against UNLV in a, 7-0, Wildcat victory.  The Rebel reached on a fielding error by a UA infielder.  In her seven innings against UNLV, Mowatt struck out 15 of the 22 opposing hitters, allowing just that one batter over the minimum.

Two days later against Cal State Northridge, Mowatt upped her performance, tossing a perfect game against the Matadors.  The second-year hurler struck out 13 of the 15 opposing hitters she faced in UA’s run-rule victory.  With a list of alums that includes Honda Award winners Nancy Evans and Jennie Finch, Mowatt became just the third Wildcat pitcher in the program’s history to toss a perfect game.  Senior Alicia Hollowell and Honda Award winner Susie Parra are the others.

This is Mowatt’s first Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor, and the third for a UA hurler this year.
