WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona junior Taryne Mowatt has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 13-19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Mowatt was a workhorse for the Wildcats, who took second at the Judi Garman Classic last week, falling to sixth-ranked Oklahoma in the title game. No. 5 Arizona went 4-2 during the tournament, and Mowatt was credited with all four wins to just one loss.

In the opener on Thursday against North Carolina State, Mowatt threw a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and two walks and striking out 11 in a 2-0 win.

The Corona, Calif., native bounced back from a loss to No. 6 Oklahoma in a big way over the next three days. On Friday, Mowatt pitched the first four innings of an 11-0 blowout of Pacific without allowing a run. She then stymied No. 9 Michigan on Saturday, going the distance in a 2-1 Arizona win and allowing just three hits, a walk, and fanning eight. The Wolverines hit .348 overall for the tourney, but were helpless against the Wildcat ace.

In Sunday’s semifinal, Mowatt came out and dominated the 16th-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette, tossing a two-hit shutout and striking out 14 as Arizona cruised to a 9-0 win.

All told, Mowatt compiled a 4-1 record with a 1.17 ERA against some of the most potent offenses in the country. She struck out 46 and limited opposing batters to a .159 average.

This is Mowatt’s fourth career weekly honor from the Pac-10 and the 104th Player/Pitcher of the Week award alltime for Arizona.

The Wildcats (21-7) return home for a three-game set against New Mexico this weekend at Hillenbrand Stadium
