Wildcats Card Best Round, Finish Tournament in Seventh

GUADALAJARA, Mexico ?- The Arizona women’s golf team shot a tournament best, 295 (+7) in round three and finished the tournament in seventh place with a 900 (+36).


Individually for the Cats freshman Lauren Espinosa continued to lead the team.  Espinosa matched her round one score of 70 (-2) in round three and finished the tournament with a 214 (-2).  Espinosa’s third place finish marks her third top 10 finish this season and her tournament score of 214 marks her new collegiate career best.


Enjoying her best round of the tournament was freshman Adriana Zwanck who carded a 73 (+1) after shooting a 78 (+6) in the first two rounds.  Zwanck finished the tournament in a tie for 33rd place with a score of 229 (+13). 


Also shooting her best today was fellow classmate Amanda Wilson who shot a 74 (+2) in round three and 230 (+14) for the tournament.  Wilson finished in 35th place. 


Wildcat junior Cassandra Kirkland finished with a tournament score of 233 (+17) and a share of 38th place.  Rounding out the Arizona team was Sommer Scholl who showed steady improvement, shaving one stroke off her previous score each day.  Scholl finished the tournament in a tie for 47th place with a combined score of 237 (+21).


After surrendering the tournament lead in round two, the UCLA Bruins shot a 286 (-2) in round three and were crowned tournament champions with a combined score of 864 (E).  USC struggled in round three shooting a 296 (+8) and slipping to second place with a tournament score of 871 (+7).


The Duke Blue Devils carded a 284 (-4) in round three and finished the tournament in third place with an 874 (+10).


The Arizona State Sun Devils and the Georgia Bulldogs tied for fourth place, each carding a tournament score of 882 (+18).


After shooting a tournament low, 64 (-8) in round two, USC’s Irene Cho shot a 69 (-3) in the third and final round, finishing in first place with a 203 (-13).  Cho’s closest competitor finished 10 strokes behind her. 


The Arizona women’s golf team will next tee off at the PING/ASU Invitational.  The tournament will be held at the Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz. March 31-April 2.
